New Testament Survey Part 8
This session surveys Hebrews, Jude, 1–3 John, and Revelation.
Hebrews – Jesus Is Better. Written to Jewish Christians tempted by persecution to return to Judaism, Hebrews explains that salvation in Christ surpasses the Old Testament covenant and urges believers to endure in faith.
Jude – Fight for the Faith. Jude, planning to write on salvation, was forced instead to address false teachers infiltrating the churches. He exposes their true character, warns of God's coming judgment on them, and urges readers to stand firm in the Lord.
The Letters of John teach that true faith requires believing Jesus Christ came in the flesh, lived, and died as a man—and that this faith is measured by a genuine Christian life, not mere knowledge.
1 John – Fellowship Barometer. Written against the heresy of Gnosticism, John affirms that Jesus is both God and man, and stresses that walking with God produces love for others and growing holiness.
2 John – Shut the Door. John instructs the church not to support or fellowship with travelling false teachers.
3 John – Open the Door. John commends a church for its hospitality toward travelling Christian ministries.
Revelation – Heavenly Visions. Through a series of visions, John reveals God's heart for the churches of Asia Minor, reminding readers that God remains in control and will reward those who remain faithful and overcome.
