New Testament Survey Part 3
This session surveys Acts, Galatians, James, and 1 Thessalonians.
Acts – The Growth of the Church. Acts bridges the Gospels and the letters, supplying historical context for much of the New Testament correspondence. More than background, it deliberately traces how Christianity spread from its Jewish roots into a worldwide faith embracing all races.
Galatians – Freedom from Bondage. Judaizers claimed Gentile believers in Galatia needed to follow Old Testament law to be accepted by God. Paul wrote to warn that this path would not strengthen their faith but enslave them.
James – Faith Gauge. While salvation is by faith alone, James insists genuine faith produces visible action. A faith unaccompanied by changed behaviour should be questioned.
1 Thessalonians – Stay on Target. After planting the Thessalonian church, Paul was forced out by persecution within weeks. Writing from a distance, he urged the new believers to remain faithful despite ongoing opposition.
